About Semaglutide

Semaglutide is an injectable medication originally designed to manage Type 2 diabetes. It has received attention for its notable effects on weight loss when used with a proper diet and regular exercise.

This medication – part of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) group – works by replicating the GLP-1 hormone.

Pyridoxine, more commonly known as vitamin B6, has important functions in the central nervous system and in converting food into usable energy. It’s also great at reducing water retention, a common concern for those managing their weight.

Paired with semaglutide, it may also counteract some side effects, like nausea, that’s common with some people on the medication.

Mechanism of Action

GLP-1 is a hormone released in the gut as the body responds to food intake. One of its main functions is to increase insulin production, thus lowering blood sugar levels.

Because of its ability to reduce glucose, healthcare providers have relied on semaglutide for more than 15 years as a valuable treatment for Type 2 diabetes.

However, GLP-1 also fulfills another central function by interacting with the brain’s hunger centers. In higher doses, semaglutide activates areas in the brain responsible for curbing appetite and heightening feelings of fullness. So, when people take semaglutide while following a balanced diet and exercise regimen, they generally experience considerable weight loss and possible reductions in health risks (diabetes, heart disease, certain cancers) associated with obesity.

Pyridoxine helps metabolize proteins, fats, and carbohydrates and is even useful for maintaining energy levels.

Studies suggest pyridoxine alone can reduce body mass index (BMI) and cut down on fat mass and waist circumference while helping improve metabolic factors connected to obesity.

Weekly Injections

Users have to take a weekly injection to lose weight with semaglutide. When continued over 68 weeks, it may result in a 15-20% reduction in body weight for many users.

For the best results, users generally follow this weekly injection routine for approximately nine months, during which time they adhere closely to a healthy diet and active lifestyle.

Safety Considerations

Semaglutide is very useful for managing Type 2 diabetes and promoting weight loss, but it may cause some side effects.

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, or constipation are reported mild side effects. Less common but more severe reactions can include pancreatitis or allergic responses.

Medical supervision is critical throughout treatment with semaglutide as it may not be suitable for everyone. Those with MEN2, a history of medullary thyroid cancer, pancreatitis, or gallbladder disease should avoid it.
